European Economics Preview: German Ifo Business Confidence Due



Ifo business confidence from Germany and retail sales from the U.K. are the major reports due on Thursday.


At 1.45 am ET, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs is slated to publish Switzerland’s economic forecasts.


Statistics Sweden publishes unemployment data for November at 3.30 am ET. The jobless rate is seen falling to 6.6 percent in November from 6.7 percent in October.


At 4.00 am ET, Germany’s Ifo business confidence survey results are due. The business confidence index is expected to remain unchanged at 109 in December.


Also, the European Central Bank releases economic bulletin. In the meantime, Norway’s central bank announces its interest rate decision.


At 4.30 am ET, the Office for National Statistics is scheduled to release U.K. retail sales figures for November. Sales are forecast to fall 0.6 percent on a monthly basis offsetting a 0.6 percent fall in October.


At 5.00 am ET, Greece unemployment data is due. The jobless rate is expected to rise to 24.7 percent in the third quarter from 24.6 percent in the second quarter.


At 6.00 am ET, the Confederation of British Industry publishes Industry Trends survey data. The industrial order balance is expected to improve to -10 in December from -11 in November.


At 8.00 am ET, industrial production, producer prices and retail sales reports are due. Industrial output is forecast to fall 4.3 percent on a monthly basis in November reversing a 2 percent rise in October.


Economists forecast Poland’s producer prices to drop 2 percent annually and retail sales to grow 2.2 percent in November from last year.
